The Preaching & Intercession Ministry is one of the 14 ministries under the BMCC Core Group, dedicated to the study and proclamation of the Word of God, spiritual formation, training of lay ministers, prayer, and intercession for the Church, the community, those in need, and the world.
The ministry seeks to encourage and empower lay ministers to grow in faith, deepen their understanding of Scripture and Catholic teaching, preach the Word of God, lead prayer groups, and actively participate in the mission of evangelization. The ministry embraces the spirituality of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal and the experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, while fostering a spirit of prayer, service, fellowship, and evangelization.
The ministry currently has around 60 active members, with a dedicated 12-member service team coordinating its preaching, training, prayer, and intercession activities. The Intercession team also includes faithful members who generously offer their time to pray for the needs of individuals, families, the Church, and the world.
Major Activities
Charismatic Prayer Meeting
A weekly Charismatic Prayer Meeting is held every Thursday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Sacred Heart Church Main Church. The meeting includes:
- Praise and Worship
- Sharing of the Word of God
- Intercession
- Adoration
Members of the Intercession Ministry lead the intercessory prayer and pray for the petitions received from the faithful.
Intercession Prayer
Intercession is a central responsibility of the ministry. Members pray regularly for individuals and families in need, the Church, the BMCC community, special intentions, and the needs of the world.
A dedicated Intercession Prayer Meeting is held every Saturday from 7:15 AM to 9:00 AM in Classroom No. 1. Additional intercession sessions are organized whenever required, particularly during retreats, prayer vigils, special liturgical celebrations, and community events.
Prayer Request Ministry
A Prayer Request Box is made available during Malayalam Holy Masses and Malayalam prayer gatherings. The faithful can submit prayer intentions, petitions, and thanksgiving.
The collected intentions are brought to the intercession team and prayed for during the weekly intercession meetings. Prayer intentions are also shared with family-cell leaders so that they can be included in family-cell prayers.
Selected prayer requests are made available to the faithful through the religious gift shop to encourage wider prayer support.
Tuesday Community Intercession
The congregation gathers every Tuesday from 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM in Room No. 1 after the Malayalam Mass and St. Antony’s Novena to pray for the collected petitions, the BMCC community, the Church, and the world.
A smaller group gathers from 7:00 PM for the Rosary and general intercessions before the main prayer session.
Intercession During Mass and Prayer Meetings
The ministry provides intercessory prayer during the Thursday Charismatic Prayer Meeting and other Malayalam community gatherings. Intercession is also offered before selected Malayalam Holy Masses and during special programmes whenever required.
Night Vigil
The ministry organizes a Night Vigil every three months, generally from 7:00 PM to 12:00 midnight, providing an extended time of praise, worship, Scripture, prayer, intercession, and spiritual renewal.
An annual Pentecostal Night Vigil is also organized from approximately 7:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
Training & Formation of Ministers
The ministry conducts regular formation and training programmes for lay ministers.
Training sessions are held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Fridays of the month from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM in Classroom No. 1. These sessions include:
- Detailed study of the Holy Scriptures
- Catholic Catechism and teachings
- Spiritual formation
- Training and empowerment of ministers
- Preparation for preaching and leading prayer groups
A worship service is arranged on the 1st Friday of each month from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Ministers’ Monthly Meeting
Ministers meet on the 2nd Friday of every month from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM in Classrooms No. 1 & 2 for fellowship, spiritual empowerment, coordination, evaluation, and planning of ministry activities.
Family Cells
The ministry supports the BMCC family-cell network by sending trained ministers to approximately 40 family cells to share the Word of God, lead prayer, and encourage spiritual growth and fellowship among families.
Spiritual Formation Programmes
The ministry assists the Spiritual Director in organizing annual spiritual formation programmes by inviting experienced and renowned spiritual leaders to guide and strengthen the faithful.
Prayer Charts
Prayer schedules and charts are prepared regularly to ensure continuous prayer coverage for:
- Thursday Charismatic Prayer Meetings
- Night Vigils
- Monthly prayer intentions
- Family-cell prayer groups
- Special community activities and events
Intercession WhatsApp Groups
The Intercession Ministry coordinates dedicated WhatsApp prayer groups, including Intercession 1 and Intercession 2, with around 200 members, along with supporting sub-groups.
These groups are used exclusively for urgent and important prayer requests. The circulation of prayer intentions is carefully controlled by the Intercession Core Group to maintain the spiritual purpose and focus of the groups.
Retreats and Special Events
The ministry provides prayer and practical support for Annual Retreats, Lenten Retreats, Night Vigils, feasts, and other special BMCC programmes. This includes organizing intercession, preparing prayer intentions, coordinating praise and worship leaders, and providing prayer support throughout the programmes.
Prayer cards may also be prepared and distributed for special occasions such as the St. Sebastian Feast, retreats, and other important community activities.
Our Mission
Through the combined ministry of preaching, formation, prayer, and intercession, the Preaching & Intercession Ministry seeks to build a prayerful and spiritually empowered community, equip lay ministers to proclaim the Gospel, strengthen families and prayer groups, and intercede continually for the needs of the Church, the community, and the world.
